More Than 2,000 Backpacks Filled With School Supplies Being Distributed In Coachella Valley

The donations, valued at $64,500, were made by the Walter Clark Legal Group.

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — More than 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed to students next month during giveaway events across the Coachella Valley, it was announced Tuesday.

The donations, valued at $64,500, were made by the Walter Clark Legal Group as part of its annual effort to support students in five Southern California school districts.

"We are delighted that our donations have increased from $11,700 two years ago to $64,500 this year," Walter Clark, CEO and president of the law firm, said in a statement. "It's always touching and inspirational to see the faces of the students when they select their backpacks."

Cabot Yerxa Elementary School in the Palm Springs Unified School District received 700 backpacks, which will be handed out at 8:20 a.m. on Aug. 7 at 6707 Desert View Avenue in Desert Hot Springs.

John F. Kennedy Elementary School in the Desert Sands Unified School District received 410 backpacks to be distributed during the Chalk the Walk event from 8 to 10 a.m. on Aug. 18 at 45100 Clinton Street in Indio.

Desert Mirage High School in the Coachella Valley Unified School District received the largest donation -- 1,500 backpacks -- to be distributed at a "Free Backpack Giveaway Drive-Thru" event from 6 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 19 at 86150 66th Avenue in Thermal.

"We sincerely appreciate the generosity of the Walter Clark Legal Group for donating 1,500 backpacks to support or students and community," according to a statement by CVUSD.
