A motorcyclist was fatally in a crash Tuesday on State Route 62 between Morongo Valley and Yucca Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Gary T. Berlino II, 30, of Morongo Valley, was riding a 2003 Kawasaki Ninja west on the 62, heading down the Morongo Grade at a high rate of speed, when he lost control at the San Bernardino-Riverside county line about 5 p.m. Oct. 15, CHP Officer Alex Scott said Wednesday in a phone interview.
Berlino was thrown off the motorcycle and his helmet, which had not been properly fastened, came off, Scott said. Berlino sustained major head trauma and he was pronounced deceased on-scene by Morongo Valley Fire Department personnel.
The motorcycle went off the road and came to rest in a ravine west of the highway, Scott said.
