Motorist Arrested In Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Cathedral City

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — A motorist was arrested in connection with a single-vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Cathedral City, authorities said Sunday.

Officers dispatched at 8:50 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of Dinah Shore Drive and Via Echo located a person suffering from major injuries, said Cmdr. Nate Hanley of the Cathedral City Police Department.

Arriving paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The vehicle and motorist remained at the scene.

The motorist, Anthony Vega, 35, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, Hanley said.

The pedestrian was later identified as 27-year-old Yuvinka Ponce of Cathedral City.
