Motorists Shot At In Rancho Mirage: Investigators Seek Leads

The suspect's vehicle was described as a newer red sedan.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — Authorities Friday are investigating a shooting in Rancho Mirage, where at least three occupied vehicles were struck by gunfire and one person was injured.

Deputies responded at 2:50 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of Bob Hope Drive and Casino Way to a report of a shooting at several occupied vehicles, according to Sgt. Daniel Milbrandt of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

"Upon arrival, deputies discovered two vehicles were struck by gunfire, and an occupant of one of the vehicles sustained minor injuries," Milbrandt wrote in a statement. "The victim was treated and released at the scene by medical personnel."

A third vehicle was later reported to have been struck by gunfire, though the occupant remained unharmed, according to Milbrandt. The suspect's vehicle was described as a newer red sedan, which fled northbound on Bob Hope Drive.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.
