PALM SPRINGS, CA — North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash, which was heavily impacted from Tropical Storm Hilary in August, was reopening Monday with two newly constructed temporary lanes.

"This is an essential gateway artery to our region's only trauma center, Desert Regional Medical Center - and we understand how important it is that residents and visitors are able to access this critical roadway so they can to get to get to the hospital, school, or work in a timely manner," Palm Springs Mayor Grace Garner said in a statement.

After 4 p.m. Monday, motorists will be able to access two lanes while crews continue to repair the remaining road damage caused by the storm, according to Palm Springs chief communications officer Amy Blaisdell.

Heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Hilary hit the Coachella Valley on Aug. 18, flooding and damaging several roads including Indian Canyon Drive, Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City, Interstate 10 off-ramps and Avenue 44 in Indio among others.

Additionally, a new four-way stop was installed at the intersection of Palm Springs Station Road, Blaisdell said, advising motorists to be cautious when crossing the construction zone.
