Palm Desert Home Partially Collapses During Attic Fire

Firefighters battled a large attic fire at a home in Palm Desert on Friday that was eventually quelled but left significant damage.

PALM DESERT, CA — A home in Palm Desert partially collapsed on Friday afternoon, following a large fire at the residence, authorities said.

The blaze was reported at 11:15 a.m. in the 900 block of Mesa Grande, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. When firefighters first arrived on the scene, the home's attic was already fully involved with flames, officials said.

Two hours after the blaze was reported, firefighters said the fire was out but a partial collapse of the building structure had occurred.

"The fire has now been contained, and resources will remain committed for approximately an hour for substantial mop-up," firefighters wrote in an update around 1:30 p.m.
