“I was truly inspired by all the applicants for the Kode With Karlie scholarship,” said Karlie Kloss. “Their depth, creativity and thoughtfulness is a testament to how these young women will change the world through code. It was incredibly difficult to select the recipients, as there were so many qualified and incredible candidates.”

The winners will be enrolled in the Flatiron School’s Pre-College Academy’s two-week summer coding class. The young women will learn similar curriculum that Karlie and other adult Flatiron School students study including, HTML, CSS and Ruby. Noted for launching adult graduate careers at companies such as Google, Microsoft, Boeing and Esty, the Flatiron School gives high school students the opportunity to learn the same set of skills as their older counterparts to build real web applications.

“Karlie is the perfect example of the changing landscape in the tech industry by breaking the archetype of the traditional programmer,” said Avi Flombaum, Dean at the Flatiron School. “We’ve been able to watch her grow as a coder and that passion is contagious. As a result, her scholarship will positively impact the lives and careers of many girls.”

The Flatiron School’s Pre-College Academy is available to teens across the country with locations not only in New York City, but also in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and Austin. All sessions are two weeks long and run Monday through Friday from 9:00am until 3:00pm.
