Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Reopens Early
The popular tramway is opening up again on Oct. 18, one day earlier than previously announced.
PALM SPRINGS, CA — The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is finally reopening — the world's largest rotating car, officials said.
The beloved tramway, which lifts passengers to a mountain-top station with trails, a restaurant and a bar, will open on Friday, Oct. 18, one day earlier than originally announced.
The tramway has been closed amid storm-induced road damage. For the past month it's been shuttered for annual maintenance, which included the replacement of four tension ropes, testing on the gearbox, track rope repositioning and other essential tune-ups.

“We are pleased to announce that our reopening date has been moved up by one day,” said General Manager Nancy Nichols. “We extend our gratitude to our visitors for their patience as our Tramway Systems team diligently completed all necessary projects. We eagerly anticipate welcoming both new and returning visitors to the Tramway and the beautiful Mt. San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness.”
The car has taken passengers along the cliffs of Chino Canyon from the Valley Station up to Mountain Station, an 8,516-foot elevation gain, since 1963. The ride is about 10 minutes.
