Palm Springs Police Use Drone To Search For Lost Hiker

The department's search and rescue team called the technology a "game-changer."

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Reports of a missing hiker in Palm Springs prompted police to deploy a drone to join the search and rescue team over the weekend.

On Saturday, officers from the Palm Springs Police Department said they were able to locate a lost hiker using the new technology.

"This rescue also marks another success story using our drone technology—proving to be a game-changer in search efforts," the department said.

The unmanned surveillance and air support tech was made available under the department's Drone Program, which aims to improve efficiency, mitigate risk and prevent injury for both the public and first responders. Learn more about the program here.
