Police Standoff In Palm Desert Walmart Parking Lot Ends With Arrest

The standoff with Riverside County sheriff's deputies was triggered by a domestic violence call.

PALM DESERT, CA — A man who allegedly threatened to harm his girlfriend was arrested Tuesday night in the Palm Desert Walmart parking lot following a two-and-a-half-hours-long standoff with deputies.

At 6:24 p.m., Riverside County sheriff's deputies were called to the store at 34500 Monterey Avenue for a report of domestic violence.

The victim told dispatch her boyfriend had been physical with her and threatened to hurt her. She made the call from inside a business while her boyfriend remained parked in the lot, according to Sgt. Deirdre Vickers.

Deputies attempted to contact the suspect, but he refused to exit the vehicle, Vickers reported.

A standoff took place as deputies negotiated with the suspect.

Around 9 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
