President Of CSUSB And Its Palm Desert Campus Announces Departure

PALM DESERT, CA — Tomás Morales, president of Cal State San Bernardino and its Palm Desert campus, will step down at the end of the academic year.
Morales has served in higher education for a total of 51 years, which includes 13 years as president of the CSUSB.
He made the announcement Aug. 21 during the university's annual convocation of faculty, staff and administrators, according to the university.

"It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as your president, and I look forward to moving into this next year with you," Morales said.
He began as his role at CSUSB in August 2012 and has led numerous initiatives, including $54 million in fundraising, aiding in the development its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion board and adding about 552,612-square-feet of space to both campuses.

Prior to CSUSB, he was president at the College of Staten Island, the City University of New York from 2007 to 2012.
Morales holds a bachelor of arts in history from University at Albany, where he also earned his masters and doctorate in educational administration and policy studies.
The appointment process for his successor will be managed and confirmed by the CSU Board of Trustees over the coming months.
