Rancho Mirage Public Library To Dedicate Special Collections Room

This celebration of the new Library space will be open to the public on Nov. 9.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA (November 4, 2016) - The Rancho Mirage Public Library Board will dedicate its new Special Collections Room on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. The ceremony will include remarks by Mayor Ted Weill, Library Foundation Chair, Diane Sagan, and Library Director, David Bryant.

The Special Collections Room features a new shelving/display unit to showcase the President Gerald R. and Mrs. Betty Ford Collection, contributed to the Library in 2014 by the Ford children, Susan Ford Bales, and her brothers Michael, Steven, and Jack. The collection includes hundreds of books the Ford's acquired as active readers and includes books they purchased during their presidential travels.

The Room also includes a permanent exhibit of the "Joe and Gigi Roberson Mineral Collection" gathered over decades of travel by the Roberson's on a global search for the very best geological specimens. Joe Roberson will offer a look at the acquisition of the collection and how he and his wife Gigi came to entrust it to the Rancho Mirage Public Library.

This celebration of the new Library space, and its important exhibitions, is open to the public. The event will be videotaped for later broadcast on RMTV, Channel 17. Refreshments will be served.
