RivCo Man Arrested In Train Burglary

Deputies reported that two men were seen loading stolen merchandise into a vehicle before fleeing the area.

MECCA, CA — A 19-year-old Riverside County man was arrested in connection with a train burglary in Mecca on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Fabian Galvez-Espinoza of Mecca was arrested after deputies said he fled from police on foot, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Deputies at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday were called to the area of Hammond Road and Johnson Street in the unincorporated community of Mecca Two to respond to a train burglary. There, men were seen loading stolen merchandise into a vehicle.

The vehicle was later reported stolen and it was seen fleeing the area before deputies could arrive. The car traveled to the area of Johnson Street and Avenue 62 before the driver and passenger attempted to flee on foot.

The suspects tried to elude capture, but Sheriff’s Aviation deputies in the air provided updates to help police capture the driver. All stolen property was recovered, deputies said.

While the passenger escaped the area, Galvez-Espinoza was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, grand theft, resisting arrest and conspiracy, police said.
