5 Riverside County Restaurants Shuttered After Sewage, Wastewater Problems
See what led to the temporary closures of these Riverside County restaurants this week.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Health inspectors temporarily closed five Riverside County restaurants this week, according to the County of Riverside Department of Environmental Health's most recent report.
Health inspectors arrive at restaurants unannounced to grade them on multiple factors. They check potential issues ranging from proper pest control and food temperature storage to plumbing and proper sanitization, according to Program Chief Kristin Lorge.
Each restaurant is either awarded an "A" grade or dinged with inspection grades ranging from "B" to "C." Owners can attempt to fix the problems while inspectors are present or remain closed until the health issues are resolved.

Sometimes issues that lead to closures are beyond the restaurant's control, as was the case this week, according to health inspector reports obtained by Patch.
Five Cathedral City restaurants located at a shopping center on the northwest corner of Date Palm Road and Ramon Avenue suffered a severe sewer back-up resulting in a 24-hour shutdown, according to the businesses.

Health inspectors closed the Wingstop, Domino's Pizza #8485, China 8, and the Hamachi Sushi Bar, all located at 31855 Date Palm Drive, due to a severe plumbing back-up and improper wastewater disposal problem discovered in that shopping center on May 18.
The nearby Panda Express #953, located at 68900 Ramon Avenue, was also closed that day due to a similar plumbing issue, according to the inspector's report.
By May 19, those stopped-up drains were unclogged, and the facilities reopened for business.
No other restaurants were listed as shut down this week according to the May 24 report.
