Mass Layoffs Planned At RivCo Bus Provider Facility
Layoffs at the facility are planned in June, when the facility is expected to close down permanently.
PALM SPRINGS, CA — First Student, a major student transportation provider located in Palm Springs, will permanently close its facility next month and lay off 109 workers, according to a notice filed with the state.
First Student, which has been in business for 112 years and employs more than 61,000 people at 545 different locations across the nation, is expected to close its facility at 5006 Calle Raphael in Palm Springs on June 11.
The company, which operates in the transportation and warehousing sector, notified the state's Employment Development Department of the closure and impending layoffs on March 26.

The business has not announced a reason for the closure and did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Patch.
According to the company's website, First Student gives 5.5 million students a ride to school every day.
