RivCo Teen Found Dead From Apparent Gunshot Wound: Sheriff

A 17-year-old was found by deputies at 1 a.m. on Wednesday suffering from fatal wounds.

MECCA, CA — A 17-year-old girl died early Wednesday after she was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in Riverside County, authorities said.

The girl, whose name has not been released due to her age, was found by deputies after they were sent to the 91800 block of Avenue 66 in the unincorporated desert community of Mecca, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The department was responding to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon.

After administering life-saving efforts by paramedics, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, the department said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. No other information was immediately available.
