Riverside Superior Court Extends Some Court Closures

Amid continued concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in an effort to comply with federal, state and local guidelines, the court will be extending the closures of the Corona, Moreno Valley, Temecula and Hemet Courts as well as the Riverside Self-Help Center and the Riverside Records Center from July 27, 2020 through August 7, 2020.

EIGHTH IMPLEMENTATION OF EMERGENCY RELIEF AUTHORIZED
PURSUANT TO GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 68115
On March 17, 20, and 23, 2020, April 1 and 24, 2020, and May 26, 2020, and June 2, and 23, 2020, upon the request of the Riverside Superior Court (“Court”), Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye, Chair of the Judicial Council of California, exercising the authority granted under Government Code section 68115, issued emergency orders (“Orders”) authorizing the Court to take certain actions pursuant to Government Code section 68115.
On July 21, 2020, upon further request made by the Court on July 16, 2020, Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye issued an additional emergency order authorizing the Court to take certain actions based on the determination that the conditions described in Government Code section 68115
(a) continue to exist.
This Court HEREBY FINDS AND ORDERS AS FOLLOWS:
1. For purposes of computing time for filing papers with the Court under Code of Civil Procedure §§12 and 12a, from 7/23/2020 to 8/19/2020, inclusive, are deemed holidays, except as set forth in General Order Nos. 2020-30, 2020-26, 20020-25, 2020-22, 2020-20 and 2020-15, and as may be excepted by further order of the Court, (Gov. Code, §68115(a)(4));
2. The Court may order that sessions be held anywhere in the county, including in

correctional and juvenile detention facilities, from 7/23/2020 to 8/19/2020, inclusive, (Gov. Code, §67115(1)(1));
3. In cases in which the statutory deadline otherwise would expire from 7/23/2020 to 8/19/2020, inclusive, any judge of the Court may extend the time period provided in Penal Code §825 within which a defendant charged with a felony offense must be taken before a magistrate from 48 hours to not more then 4 days, (Gov. Code, §68115(a)(8)).
The Court reserves the authority to rescind or modify this order, as appropriate, to address changing circumstances.
THIS ORDER IS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
