Senator Boxer to Visit Centro Medico Cathedral City, Discuss Affordable Care Act

California Senator Barbara Boxer plans to visit the Borrego Health clinic Centro Medico Cathedral City on Friday, according to her staff.
Boxer also plans to discuss how the Affordable Care Act "is expanding access to quality, affordable health care for millions of Californians," Boxer's staff said in an announcement dated Oct. 24.
Here's more from the statement:
The ACA included $11 billion in new funding to build or renovate community health centers like CMCC that provide preventative and primary health services to communities in need. CMCC received a $500,000 federal grant that will allow the clinic to expand by 9,000 square feet and almost double the number of patients it will serve to more than 20,000 annually. Because of the ACA, communities across the state have received more than $500 million to build new clinics and expand existing facilities.
Senator Boxer will tour the clinic to highlight the ways the health care law is making a difference in the lives of people all over California. Thanks to the ACA, almost 5.5 million Californians are now able to choose from a range of affordable health plans available through the state exchange – Covered California – and more than 1.4 million are newly eligible for free or low cost coverage through Medi-Cal.
Centro Medico Cathedral City is part of Borrego Health, which runs a dozen clinics in Riverside and San Diego counties. Borrego Health's mission statement is to provide "high quality, efficient customer focused health care to the communities we serve, accomplished by providing access to patient centered comprehensive care to all residents regardless of their ability to pay."
