Students, Staff Leave Their Mark In College Of The Desert Expansion
A new $73.8 million building is under construction at the College of the Desert's Indio campus, covered by funding from Measure CC.
INDIO, CA —The College of the Desert's Indio campus held a beam-signing ceremony Tuesday to commemorate its new campus expansion project.
Around 60 students, community members, city and college officials gathered Tuesday afternoon at the expansion site at 45524 Oasis St., the college's Nicholas Robles told City News Service.
"Bond funding approved by voters was instrumental in getting this project built, so it's fitting that the public should be part of it," COD Superintendent/President Martha Garcia said in a statement.

The new building, expected to be operational by 2024, will accommodate 5,000 more students, Robles said. An existing instructional facility will also be remodeled, upgraded and joined via a pavilion to the new building.
The Indio campus expansion and upgrades will be partially covered by funding from Measure CC. The project budget is $73.8 million.

Robles told CNS that a 17,000-square-foot child development center is also in the works for the expansion project.
"The Indio Campus Expansion will bean incredibly valuable asset to the College, our students and community," Garcia said.
The beam was available for signing through 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
