Suspected Golf Club Thief Nabbed Following La Quinta Heist: Cops
The high-value theft was reported Oct. 28 in the 81000 block of Contento Street.

LA QUINTA, CA — A 59-year-old man suspected of stealing high-value golf clubs and equipment from a vehicle in La Quinta was free from jail Wednesday on a $10,000 bail bond.
Jose Antonio Castillo of Coachella was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of being in possession of stolen property and ammunition, according to Sgt. LaFond of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies from the sheriff's Thermal station responded on Oct. 28 to the theft, which took place in the 81000 block of Contento Street, LaFond said. The La Quinta Special Enforcement Team assumed the investigation and identified Castillo as the suspect.

Team members subsequently served a search warrant in the 85000 block of Cairo Street in Coachella and Castillo was arrested.
"Evidence implicating Castillo in the theft was recovered, as well as numerous other suspected stolen items," LaFond wrote in a statement. "Ammunition was also located during the service of the search warrant."

According to inmate records, Castillo was booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio on Tuesday morning but was released the same day on a $10,000 bail bond.
Anyone with information on the theft was asked to call Deputy Martin from the Thermal sheriff's station at 760-863-8990.
