Suspected Palm Tree Arsonist In Palm Springs Faces 17 Felony Counts

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A Palm Springs woman faces more than a dozen felony charges after she was accused of intentionally lighting palm trees on fire last week.

Tiara Chrystal Wons pleaded not guilty to 17 counts of non-dwelling arson at an arraignment at the Larson Justice Center in Indio on Wednesday, according to the Riverside County District Attorney's office

Jail records show that Wons, 38, was still being held Wednesday at the Larry D. Smith Correctional with a bail set at $1,000,000.

On Sept. 26, a 911 caller told the Palm Springs Police Department that they saw multiple large palm trees engulfed in flames just after 8 p.m. near the Parker Hotel. The woman told police she saw a woman set the fires and even made eye contact with her.

Officers quickly made an arrest and identified the suspect as Wons. She was booked on 17 counts of arson, obstructing an officer and trespassing.
