The proposal to build in Palm Desert is a request by AO Architects on behalf of Kamla Hotels, city documents show.

On May 11, 2017, the Palm Desert City Council approved the Specific Plan and other documents for the Monterey Crossing project, an 18-acre mixed-commercial center at the northeast corner of Monterey Avenue and Dinah Shore Drive.

As part of that approval process, the city OK'd uses for the center including drive-thru restaurants, shops and retail buildings, an automotive dealership, and a four-story hotel.
