Traffic Alert Update: Palm Desert Signals Will NOT Go Dark for Repairs Wednesday

Update 5:05 p.m. Traffic signals at Monterey Avenue and Gran Via/Las Palmas will not be turned off for repairs Wednesday Aug. 21, a City of Palm Desert spokesman said in a Tuesday afternoon update.

Workers reported Tuesday afternoon the signals will not have to be turned off in order to perform repairs at the location, city spokesman David Hermann said.

"Monterey will remain reduced to one lane in both directions between Fred Waring and Grand Via/Las Palmas as work continues on the road widening project there," Hermann said. "Some delays are expected. Alternate routes include Portola Avenue and Bob Hope Drive."

There will be lane closures on Monterey through Sept. 4, Hermann said.

Posted 12:45 p.m. Traffic signals at Monterey Avenue and Gran Via/Las Palmas will be dark from 4 a.m. to noon Wednesday Aug. 21 while workers repair signal conduit, a City of Palm Desert spokesman announced Tuesday.

"Significant delays are expected," city spokesman David Hermann said in a statement. "Drivers are asked to exercise caution in and around the intersection and encouraged to use alternate routes such as Portola Avenue and Bob Hope Drive to avoid delays."

Workers with flags will control traffic through the intersection until repairs are completed, Hermann said.
