PALM DESERT, CA — With Labor Day approaching on Monday, Sept. 1, it’s worth checking which stores and establishments will close in observance and which will remain open.

Whether you forgot the hamburger buns for your barbecue or you’re planning to dine out, here’s a guide to what’s open and closed in and around Palm Desert.

Banks will be closed, as will the U.S. Postal Service and non-emergency government offices at the local, state and federal levels.

Millions of working Americans outside of retail and hospitality get the day off for Labor Day, a federal holiday since 1894 established to honor workers’ contributions during the Industrial Revolution.

Most major retailers — including The Home Depot, Walmart and Albertsons — will keep regular hours on Monday. Costco, however, will be closed, as it is on many other national holidays.

Likely Open (sometimes with regular or reduced hours):

Albertsons: Stores will be open, but hours may be limited depending on the location.

Aldi: Stores will be open, but hours may be limited depending on the location.

CVS: Stores will be open, but check local stores for pharmacy hours.

Costco: Stores will be closed on Labor Day.

Home Depot: Labor Day hours may vary by location, but stores generally will be open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m.

Kroger: Grocery stores will be open during regular business hours, but some pharmacies may be closed.

Lowe’s: Stores will be open regular hours.

Meijer: Stores will be open, though some may observe limited hours.

Sam’s Club: Stores will be open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. for Plus members and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. for members.

Target: Stores will be open regular hours, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Trader Joe’s: Most stores will be open during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., but hours may vary by location.

Walgreens: Stores will be open regular hours, but check local stores for pharmacy hours.

Walmart: Stores will be open, although hours may vary by location.

Whole Foods: Stores will be open, but check for local hours.
