5 Best Hotels for your Next Palm Springs Staycation
If you're a Palm Springs local, take advantage of the city's wide range of hospitality options for your next luxurious staycation.

The world is familiar with Palm Springs as an awesome vacation destination, especially during the winter season when much of the country is covered in snow and ice. Locals also enjoy the amenities that come with living at a world-class resort, like great hotels and fine, innovative dining. If you live in the Coachella Valley, when it's time for a staycation, Palm Springs has some great hotel options. Here are five great hotels for your next Palm Springs staycation.

Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs Hotel
This downtown favorite is the city's only real high-rise hotel, at eight stories. The Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs is at the core of the downtown shopping area meaning you can arrive, park your car, and not need it for your entire stay. Whether it's walking to the ultra-exclusive Starbucks Reserve location next door (with exclusive coffees only available there), or other downtown destinations, the Kimpton Rowan is a great base for your Palm Springs staycation. There's a lobby-level cafe, a rooftop bar, lounge and restaurant and the city's only rooftop pool.

Bring your pet as Kimpton is probably the most pet-friendly hotel brand out there. Not only are there no size or breed restrictions for dogs, Kimpton says if the pet can fit in the elevator, it's welcome.

Hyatt Palm Springs
The Hyatt delivers what can be a car-free experience as it's also downtown, almost right next to the Kimpton. The pet-friendly, all-suite hotel has some very large suites, in fact it offers some of the largest accommodations in the city, perfect for a staycation. You can even get poolside cabana suites with private patios that open right onto the lively pool area. A bonus, if you stay at the Hyatt Palm Springs, you're right across the street from the best pizza in Palm Springs, NYPD Pizza.

Thompson Palm Springs
The newest addition to the line-up of Palm Springs luxury hotels is the Thompson Palm Springs (part of the Hyatt family of hotels). It still has that new resort smell, having just opened in early 2025. Located at what's considered the northern tip of the downtown Palm Springs shopping area, the Thompson Palm Springs has brought a new level of luxurious sophistication to the desert city. There are 168 very hip rooms including 18 suites, which are set in their own almost-VIP area with separate amenities. Every room has its own balcony or terrace. The Thompson also has great dining and the city's best wine selection available at the onsite HALL Napa Valley Tasting Room.

Avalon Palm Springs
This boutique, luxury property has 72 stylish rooms but the best accommodation for staycations are the Avalon's 13 villas, which are like mini-houses. The two-bedroom bungalows have their own fireplaces, kitchens and dining rooms, along with private sun patios. The hotel has an excellent restaurant, Chi-Chi's and the small but well-equipped Estrella spa. Be sure to wander next door to the hotel sister property, the Ingleside Estate, and its legendary restaurant Melvyn's, a favorite of Palm Springs local legend Frank Sinatra.

Hilton Palm Springs
Although slightly dated with bland rooms and average service, the Hilton is included here because guests can earn or spend Hilton Honors points and because the hotel is also perfectly, centrally located in the downtown Palm Springs area. Another bonus for foodies here, you are right across the street from Sherman's Deli & Bakery (no relation), the best deli in Palm Springs and a great place for a meal. The Hilton is pet-friendly ($75 fee) and offers free Wi-Fi for Hilton Honors members. The hotel has choose-your-own-room and a digital key with your phone, both for Hilton Honors members.
