Blue Zones Longevity Project Kicks Off Palm Springs Initiative

The project aims to transform the communities it serves into healthier places by forging better, everyday habits.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Blue Zones, a globally-led initiative designed to help people live longer, will host a community kick-off event Thursday at the Palm Springs Festival Theatre.

The free event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at 789 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, organizers said.

Dan Buettner Jr., executive vice president and son of Blue Zones founder Dan Buettner, will serve as the keynote speaker for the Blue Zones Project Palm Springs. He is expected to present a blueprint on how the city's residents may live longer lives over the next three years.

The term "Blue Zones" was coined by author Dan Buettner, who studied regions known for exceptional longevity, including Okinawa, Japan and Ikaria, Greece. According to the Blue Zones Project website, the initiative has since expanded to multiple communities across California.

The project aims to transform the communities it serves into healthier places by forging better, everyday habits of social connections and environmental changes.

Blue Zones is partnering with Riverside University Health System Public Health, Eisenhower Health, Molina Healthcare and other healthcare organizations to help improve community well-being.
