📰 Here are the top stories in Palm Springs today:
- A 21-year-old man is dead after a 38-year-old man allegedly drove under the influence and caused a traffic accident. He was arrested “on suspicion of murder, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, violation of probation, and driving under the influence causing injury.” The incident occurred at Avenue 51 and Chiapas St. (NBC)
- Officers say a 28-year-old man from Redding is a suspect in several cases of vandalism downtown. He was arrested in connection with smashed windows at Johannes and Division Menswear. He allegedly could also be on the hook for smashing in windows of Fudge and Chocolates, Grand Central, and Salon 119 Beauty and Spa. Charges include “Felony Vandalism, Misdemeanor Possession of Unlawful Paraphernalia, and Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Dirk or Dagger.” (KESQ)
- A motorhome burned in the 2700 block of Via Vaquero Road a little after 2 a.m. on Wednesday. The blaze also caught some trees on fire. Firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to the residence’s home, where it was parked. Nobody was hurt. (NBC)
- With Councilmembers DeHarte and Middleton opposed, the city council voted 3-2 on making new rules for sidewalk vendors that would alter existing regulations. The proposal suggests capping hours of operation during peak season in some downtown spots. Also, there would be the need for valid permits and rules defining “a distance restriction from markets and special events.” (KESQ)
- A shoutout to Shelomith Hoy! She graduated from Palm Springs High School in three short years with a 4.6 GPA – and will have two associate degrees in economics and psychology from the College of the Desert, too. Besides that, she took six AP classes. Not surprisingly, UCLA is happy to welcome her in the fall as an applied math major. (Desert Sun)
