📰 Here are the top stories in Palm Springs today:
- If you have $769,000 lying around, you could buy the Palm Springs Glam condo. The 1979 home was a “Battle of the Bling” finalist on HGTV. It is known as the Bling House, and for good reasons. It’s 2,300 square feet of wallpaper, mirrors, and furnishings you don’t buy at Target. (Realtor)
- Do you want to pay more to the Desert Water Agency (DWA)? If not, circle June 28 at 8 a.m. on your calendar, when the DWA will hold a public hearing online and at 1200 S. Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs. The agency says inflation, at-risk aging infrastructure, and new regulations drive up expenses. Proposed rate increases are “6.25 percent for water service, 5.9 percent for recycled water, and 4.8 percent for wastewater services,” which would take effect on Jan. 1. (DWA, 2)
- Whitewater Canyon will close beginning June 1. Riverside County officials worry that “large fires could be started there” and voted Tuesday to proceed with the closure. It will remain in effect until the county’s fire chief gives the all-clear to reopen. Other areas with closures will be Steel Peak, Eagle Canyon, Bautista Canyon, the Ramona Bowl, and Indian Canyon “between Banning and San Jacinto.” (Desert Sun)
- The “popsicles” art installation will move from 605 E. Sunny Dunes Road, closer to the Palm Springs Art Museum. Look for the giant hands holding popsicles to pop up near the “Forever Marilyn” statue on Museum Way. (Desert Sun/paywall)
- Memorial Day Events: The Palm Springs Air Museum is the place to be this Memorial Day. Come to 745 North Gene Autry Trail at 10 a.m. to be to honor the women and men who died in service of our country. The Museum hosts a flower drop ceremony at 1 p.m. There’ll be children’s activities, a look at the F-177 Nighthawk Stealth Fighter exhibit, and rides on a warbird. At noon, another place to be is the Cimarron Golf Resort in Cathedral City. City councilmember Ron deHarte is one of the sponsors of the 17th annual Memorial Day Awards Luncheon. Councilmember Christy Holstege is one of the award recipients. (My News LA, Discover Cathedral City)
