📰 Here are the top stories today in Palm Springs:

  1. On Tuesday, police officers arrested a 15-year-old boy suspected of firing shots at a parked vehicle. At his North Palm Springs home, authorities found “a firearm, large capacity magazines, a large quantity of narcotics, and evidence consistent with narcotics sales.” You may remember that the crime occurred in the middle of April in the 22800 block of Sterling Avenue. (Patch)
  2. Palm Springs will participate in the guaranteed income program, and the city council has set aside $500,000. Thirty eligible neighbors will receive $800 a month for 18 months. The target date for receiving the first payment on May 15. (AS)
  3. Buddy Holly — the petit basset griffon vendéen from Palm Springs — is the city’s latest celebrity. If you believe the American Kennel Club, the breed’s name, translated, means "low-lying, wire-haired dog from the Vendéen region" and it ranks 154th in popularity. After winning “Best in Show” at Tuesday’s Westminster Kennel Club dog show, a wider audience is now aware of the adorable breed. "Buddy Holly is the epitome of a show dog. Nothing bothers him," the pup’s handler and co-owner said. It’s fair to say that the breed will gain popularity. (ABC)
  4. We’re number 81? WalletHub published its rankings for student loan debts by city. In Palm Springs, median student debt is $18,500, with the debt-to-earnings ratio being 29.52 percent. Who’s in the first place? Walterboro, South Carolina, with a median debt of $25,747 and a ratio of 82.44 percent. (WalletHub)
  5. You have until May 20 to see “The Night I Told My Story to the Sky,” an exhibition by artist Craig Kucia at The Pit. Although the art has been installed since April 15, you can meet the artist at a reception on May 13 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. (Palm Springs Life)
