Here are the top three stories today in Palm Springs:
- Martha's Village and Kitchen, a Coachella Valley homeless services provider, is proposing to open an emergency homeless navigation shelter to house the homeless population of Palm Springs. Sam Hollenbeck, CEO of Martha's Village and Kitchen, proposed an emergency center that offers 95 beds where residents can stay day or night. This would provide the growing homeless population with a temporary place to stay as a permanent shelter is constructed in Palm Springs that will open next year. (Subscription: Desert Sun)
- The Palms Springs Walk of the Stars will be welcoming a new star this week. Public arts advocate and philanthropist Ann Sheffer will be given the honor of receiving the 460th star on the Walk of Stars. According to the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, the star will be unveiled at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 12 in Downtown Palm Springs Park. (NBC Palm Springs)
- The Palm Canyon Theatre announced this week that it will be hosting an open call next month. The theatre welcomes actors of all experiences and age levels to audition for up to nine shows in the theater's upcoming season. Palm Springs Theatre officials ask that those auditioning come prepared with one up-tempo song and one ballad somewhat relating to the show they're auditioning for.
