PALM SPRINGS, CA — A police dog trained to sniff out firearms helped authorities locate a loaded handgun hidden in the bushes, leading to the arrest of a 29-year-old suspected gang member, Palm Springs police announced.

Officers responded at about 1:15 a.m. Friday to the 2800 block of Avery Drive regarding a potential disturbance involving a known gang member who was possibly armed, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

Upon arrival, they learned the suspect fled the scene and discovered a loaded magazine in the street, they added.
