RivCo Woman Arrested Amid Early Morning Gunfight

The 25-year-old is accused of firing a gun into the air, at the ground toward a victim and striking a second person with the weapon.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A woman was arrested on suspicion of firing a gun multiple times and striking a person with it during an early morning altercation that unfolded in Palm Springs on Oct. 5, authorities said.

Yaniza Regla, 25, of Cathedral City, remains in custody and faces charges of attempted murder, the Palm Springs Police Department wrote in a news release.

At 2:25 a.m. that morning, officers responded to reports of a fight involving several women after "bar closing hours." During the altercation, a suspect identified as Regla brandished a firearm, discharged it into the air and ground toward a victim before striking a second victim with the weapon, police said.

After a witness intervened, all parties fled the area, police said.

Following an investigation, detectives determined that Regla is the sole suspect. On Thursday, she was arrested at her workplace without incident, police said.

A search warrant served at her home led to the discovery of the gun used during the fight, officials said.
