📰 Here are the top stories today in Palm Springs:
- A year ago, a driver in a red Porsche 911 struck and killed a San Jacinto neighbor on E. Palm Canyon Drive but didn’t stop. Investigators located the vehicle and its registered owner a week later. However, the 42-year-old man “was uncooperative with the investigation.” He was arrested on Wednesday, posted $75,000 bail, and has a court appearance on Aug. 24. (KESQ)
- Do you remember when we talked about the 56-year-old Desert Hot Springs man who allegedly sexually assaulted a Florida tourist after connecting on a dating app? We now learned that there are at least four more victims. The suspect is now looking at "various sexual assault charges" and "administering controlled substances to at least two victims." His next court date is June 15. (KESQ)
- Street vendors aren’t exempt from visits by the County of Riverside Department of Environmental Health inspectors. Officials closed down “two shaved ice vendors, a tejuino vendor, two taco stands, and a hotdog vending cart” on May 20 because of “health infractions.” Problems ranged from hygiene problems to improper food temperatures and “flies (that) were observed contaminating the food.” (Patch)
- The Rooster And The Pig at 356 S. Indian Canyon Drive reopened! You may remember that an electrical issue closed down the business in February, making it impossible to foresee a reopening date. Now, the eatery has reopened, “same spot, same faves, same vibe. Come get you some, we missed you!” (Rooster And The Pig, 2)
- The Plaza Theatre will be known as the David C. Lee Plaza Theatre in the future. Lee received naming rights as part of a very generous $5 million donation to save the venue. “It’s a beautiful building, and it has an interesting style of architecture on the inside,” he explained. If you’d like to attend a Save the Plaza Theatre open house, you have one last opportunity on June 6 at 7 p.m. (Desert Sun/paywall)
