📰 Here are the top stories today in Palm Springs:

  1. Health officials are eying the White Party with trepidation. Citing six breakthrough cases of Mpox “in recent weeks in fully vaccinated patients,” they’re worried about the possibility of even more. It’s interesting to note that you’ll have the opportunity to get a shot for Mpox at the event. After the White Party, health officials are also on hand to assist with “a free walking clinic for STI testing and treatment if necessary” Monday through Wednesday. (NBC)
  2. What’s happening with the Amado Road Dream Hotel? You may remember that the project broke ground in 2017. In 2019, it stopped – and it never really picked up again. As late as Thursday, the city council discussed the hotel’s layout. Residents have complained about building height and view obstruction. And no, officials didn’t come to a resolution. They’ll be meeting with the developer on June 5 to continue discussions. (KESQ)
  3. Yes, homelessness in Palm Springs is still bad. But it’s better now than it was in 2012. Officials estimate that they’ve been able to assist 500 to 600 homeless neighbors “get the help they need, reunite with families, and go back to where they lived before they ended up in the Coachella Valley.” However, between Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, and Indio, the latter has the highest count. With the summer heat approaching, officials urge neighbors to call the police department if something seems wrong because “that call could save someone’s life.” (NBC)
  4. On May 16, the Palm Springs Police Officers’ Association (PSPOA) will host the first-ever Community Appreciation Social at The Flannery Exchange. Honorees will be the owner and manager of Elmer’s Restaurant. Concurrently, the organization is expected to endorse Councilmember Lisa Middleton for State Senate officially. (Uken Report)
  5. The Palm Springs Air Museum will do a Memorial Day flower drop again. At 1 p.m., the ceremony begins, culminating with the drop of 3,000 red and white carnations from a vintage B-25 Mitchell bomber to symbolize fallen veterans. If you’d like to arrive earlier to participate in other festivities — including warbird rides — come on by at 10 a.m. (yahoo!news)
