Palo Alto K9 Used To Capture Burglary Suspect Injured In Arrest

The suspect accused of burglary was caught in the act at the University Avenue residence where the K9 unit was deployed.

PALO ALTO, CA -- Police arrested a residential burglar with the help of its K9, shortly after the San Jose man entered an unoccupied home Tuesday evening. No other suspects are outstanding.

The male suspect has been identified as Eugene Adkism, 53, who was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

At 5:08 p.m., the dispatch center received a report of a residential burglary in the 900 block of University Avenue in which a female in her 60s had arrived home and found her kitchen window smashed. She immediately called 9-1-1 for help and did not enter the residence.

Officers arrived shortly after and heard rustling sounds coming from upstairs. They called out for the suspect who then came down and told the officers it was his home. Officers approached the suspect inside the residence. The suspect resisted officers’ commands, leading to the K9 unit brought in. The suspect received minor injuries from the apprehension. He was treated by paramedics from the Palo Alto Fire Department and taken to a local hospital.

No other injuries were reported, and officers cleared the residence.
