Palo Alto's Project Safety Net Named 13th District's Nonprofit Of Year

PALO ALTO, CA — Project Safety Net, a Palo Alt0-nonprofit which provides support and resources for youth suicide preventation and mental wellness, was named the 13th Senate District’s Nonprofit of the Year by state Sen. Josh Becker (D-Peninsula) this week.

Becker honored the nonprofit at the state capitol in Sacramento on Wednesday as part of an event recognizing 109 nonprofits that were named by their local legislator as a nonprofit of the year.

In a statement, Becker said that Project Safety Net’s collaboration with local community organizations, schools and local government has created a “strong network of support and services to prevent teen suicides and nurture the mental health and wellness of young people.”

“As a long-time advocate for mental health services, especially for our youth, I’m proud to name Project Safety Net the 13th Senate District’s Nonprofit of the Year,” Becker said.

Project Safety Net, which incorporated as a nonprofit in 2020, began as community coalition that formed more than a decade ago after a cluster of youth suicides.

“We are elated and grateful to receive this distinction as a start-up nonprofit committed to serve North Santa Clara and South San Mateo counties,” wrote The Reverend Dr. Eileen Altman, Project Safety Net’s board chair, and CEO Mary Cheryl Gloner, in a letter thanking Becker.
