Peninsula Rape Suspect Arrested

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — A South Bay man who authorities say brought a woman back to his apartment and raped her over the weekend has been arrested, Mountain View police said.

Henry Bermudez, 32 of Mountain View, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of rape, false imprisonment, aggravated kidnapping, and assault with the intent to commit a felony, among other charges, police said.

Bermudez was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Jail and is currently being held without bail, police said.

The adult female victim, who had been reported missing, was with a group that had been looking for her that flagged down a Mountain View police sergeant at around 9 a.m. Sunday, police said..

The victim told the officer that she had been raped by a stranger after being separated from her husband the night before while they were out in the downtown area, police said.

The victim showed identified the location of the assault as the 200 block of Castro Street.

Officers located Bermudez, who works downtown, and arrested him after the victim positively identified him as her attacker.

“Detectives continue to investigate this case and are concerned there may be additional victims,” police said in a news release.
