Stanford Captures Women's Water Polo Championship, Celebration Planned

This is Stanford's 157th national championship overall and 130th NCAA title.

PALO ALTO, CA — The Stanford women’s water polo team won its eighth championship in program history on Sunday, defeating USC 10-7 in the NCAA title game in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Fans can welcome the team back home to Stanford on Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Pac-12 Plaza for a celebration of the title.

Makenzie Fischer, who was named NCAA Tournament MVP, scored four goals to lead Stanford in the game.

The title is Stanford’s first since 2019, when it also defeated USC. The Cardinal also won national championships in 2017, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011 and 2002.

The game was tied 7-7 until Jewel Roemer scored the eventual go-ahead goal with under three minutes to play.
