Off-Duty Police Officer Shot At in South Bay

The officer saw a shooting involving two suspects. The two then shot at the officer who returned fire.

Two people fired at an off-duty police officer Saturday in San Pedro.

The officer was not injured and it was unknown if the suspects were struck by gunfire, according to Officer Mike Lopez of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.

While driving his own personal vehicle, the off-duty officer saw a shooting involving the two suspects at about 2:15 a.m. near the area of Santa Cruz Street and Cabrillo Avenue, Lopez said.

The suspects fired rounds at the officer and the officer returned fire. The suspects then fled the location and the officer called in to report the incident, he said.

Paramedics were dispatched at 2:13 a.m. nearby in the 1100 block of Gaffey Street on a reported shooting call, but transported no one to any area hospital, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
