Going Out of Town Next Weekend? Fuel Up Now

Southern Californa fuel prices remained one of the highest in the nation, but travellers can save an average of $18 if they fuel up now.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Residents looking to go out of town Memorial Day celebration next weekend should fuel up this week to save money, accoding to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average gasoline price Los Angeles County is seven-tenths of a cent less than one week ago and $1.165 lower than one year ago but one-tenth of a cent higher than one month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

"Travelers filling up now for next weekend will save about $18 per tank compared to last year," said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

The average gasoline price in Los Angeles County remained at $2.829 Friday, one day after dropping by one-tenth of a cent.

The Orange County average price rose two-tenths of a cent to $2.808. It is two-tenths of a cent less than one week ago, 1.1 cents lower than one month ago and $1.166 below what it was one year ago.

"Southern California remains the most expensive spot in the country for gas with the exception of Wailuku, Maui, but the good news is that local prices are not rising as they are elsewhere, and they are well over a dollar lower than this time last year," Spring said.
