AVALON, CA — A new Los Angeles County paramedic squad is heading to Catalina Island to join Baywatch Avalon Los Angeles County Fire Department, Lifeguard Division crews, officials announced this week.

The group will arrive on the island later this week.

"The new paramedic squad is identical to all LACoFD paramedic squads with the addition of dive equipment, a rope rescue cache, extrication tools, and a Lucas Device," officials said.

A Lucas Device is a life-saving device that gives guidelines-consistent chest compressions to sudden cardiac arrest patients.

"We look forward to continuing to provide the gold standard in service to the community of Avalon and Isthmus on Catalina Island!"

Los Angeles County Fire Department - Station 155 - is located on the island at 1 W Banning House Rd, Avalon.
