PALOS VERDES, CA— When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

Julie Brown is an incredible teacher that gives of herself for others. She is crazy dedicated to supporting the students not only in her classroom but in her school as well as throughout the community. Though her home life has been tough and tested with a new diagnosis of ALS for her husband, she continues her life as a strong mother of two and a positive serving wife. Julie juggles a balance between jobs at home and jobs at work, they never end, as do all teachers that are passionate about children. Julie is constantly personally buying the needed materials for her classroom and striving to bring in more educational programs that support her students overall well-being. On top of this, she still happily finds time to do community work and volunteer with her daughters teaching more valuable lessons about giving back.

Julie Brown is the reflection of what every teacher in America could be and should be. Julie is a hero to me, but also the hero to all the students and families she graciously and tirelessly serves every day.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?

Julie is an incredible gift as a wife, mother, friend and teacher. She shares the love from her soul to actually motivate, empower and heal the young students she teaches in our most underserved communities so they see the world with hope and possibility. And, Julie’s way of teaching continues to truly make her a hero.
