Peninsula Student Selected as Semifinalist in Google Science Fair

David Tang-Quan is one of 60 students chosen to move on in the competition.

Palos Verdes Peninsula High School student David Tang-Quan has been selected as one of 60 semifinalists in the Google Science Fair.

Tang-Quan was chosen for work on his project "Evaluating the Role of the HOG1 and ESCRT Pathways in Host/Cell Interaction and Stress Response of Candida albicans." Click here to see his Google Science Fair page.

Readers can vote for Tang-Quan to take home the People’s Choice Award and a $10,000 scholarship here.

There will be three finalist winners, one in each age category 13-14, 15-16, 17-18. One of of the three finalist winners will be selected as the Grand Prize winner.

The Grand Prize winner(s) plus one parent or guardian per winner will win a 10-day trip to the Galapagos Islands with National Geographic Expeditions, as well as thousands of dollars in scholarships and other prizes.

A second round of judging will take place until May 20 to select finalists. Public voting for the People's Choice winner will continue until May 20. Finalists and the People's Choice winner(s) will be announced May 23. Finalist event/winners will be tentatively selected and announced July 11.
