PHOTOS: Palos Verdes Half Marathon, 5K

took part in the Palos Verdes Half Marathon and 5K Saturday morning on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. 

Derek Delancey, 33, of Gilbert, Ariz. won the half marathon with a time of 1:17:59.7 and Timothy Lyne, 30, of Los Angeles won the 5K run after crossing the finish line with a time of 17:41.9.

Both courses, which started and ended at Pelican Cove near , hugged the coastline and took runners past some of the Peninsula's most scenic vistas.

The event, which was organized by the Kiwanis Club of Rolling Hills Estates, also featured live music and a post-race runners expo on the grounds of Terranea. 

The race, now in its 45th year, to avoid the high cost of and other logistical issues associated with a full marathon, according to a February release from the Kiwanis Club.

All proceeds from the race benefit childrens' charities supported by the Kiwanis Club.
