Shallow Quake Strikes off Peninsula

A magnitude 3.2 earthquake strikes the ocean floor midway between the peninsula and Catalina Island.

Few people reported feeling a magnitude 3.2 earthquake that struck halfway between the Palos Verdes Peninsula and the northwestern tip of Catalina Island, according to the USGC.

The shallow earthquake, which hit at 12:25 p.m., had an epicenter about 12 miles south-southwest of Palos Verdes Point, 13 miles southwest of Rancho Palos Verdes and 14 miles south-southwest of Palos Verdes Estates.

The people who did feel the quake felt only weak shaking, and none reported any damage, according to the USGC's community Internet intensity map.
