Author of ‘The Age of Miracles’ to Speak at Pasadena’s One City, One Story

Karen Thompson Walker's coming-of-age science fiction novel will take center stage in a Q&A Thursday.

Karen Thompson Walker, the author of “The Age of Miracles,” a coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of what seems like a slow apocalypse, has been invited for a Q&A at Pasadena’s 11th One City, One Story community reading project.

Walker, a former journalist turned literary author, will be at All Saints Church, 132 N. Euclid Ave., Thursday, March 14, at 7 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their copies of “The Age of Miracles” for Walker to sign following the free event.

In Walker’s literary debut, “The Age of Miracles” is a story of a young girl and her often-painful journey through adolescence as the world’s rotation begins to slow, leading experts to predict certain doom.

Walker was born in San Diego, Calif., studied English and creative writing at UCLA and worked as a newspaper reporter. She then moved to New York City to attend the Columbia University MFA program.

As a former book editor at Simon & Schuster, she wrote her first book in the mornings before she went to work, and while riding the subway.

Walker is the recipient of the 2011 Sirenland Fellowshio and the Bomb Magazine fiction prize.
