Evocative Exhibit Spices Up Arts Crawl (Video)

To Andy Janbek, art is in the doing. 

"We like to provide bizarre and interactive entertainment,'' he said at South Pasadena's Eleven8, as actress and model Tru Collins, clad in vintage lingerie and angel wings, sipped champagne from a flute and lounged on a mirrored bed. 

The artistic director and co-founder of Shark Tank, a media and event production company in Pasadena, Janbek participated in last weekend's Arts Crawl with his company's premiere of Diablerie, which features performance art and photography by Joshua Merrill.

"This installation revolves around the idea that art is in the doing. It doesn't hang on walls or show in galleries. It lies between epiphany and eventuality, between rough stone and smooth statue. We want to be interactive and we want to encourage people to participate,'' he said.

And how did folks participate?

"By responding to what they see, and what the characters do,'' he said, motioning toward the many spectators drawn in from Mission Street.
