Pasadena Carjacker Who Crashed During Wild Chase, Gets Prison

PASADENA, CA — An Arizona man who was driving a stolen Jeep when he rear-ended and then carjacked an SUV in Pasadena, then crashed the vehicle into some parked cars in Burbank and got into a struggle with a California Highway Patrol officer, has beensentenced to six years and four months in state prison.

Johnny Paul Siganoff, aka John Siganoff, John Szabo and Frank Siganoff of Phoenix, pleaded no contest Tuesday to one felony count each of carjacking, assault on a peace officer and resisting an executive officer.

The 34-year-old Phoenix resident was changed last year with eight felony counts.

Prosecutors said Siganoff stole the Jeep from a gas station clerk in Mission Viejo on May 30, 2018, and then got into a crash on the Foothill (210) Freeway near Hill Avenue in Pasadena with an SUV he carjacked when the driver got out to inspect the damage.

Siganoff later crashed the SUV into two other vehicles on the Ventura (134) Freeway at Harvey Drive in Glendale and tried to carjack those motorists before fleeing. At that point, police gave chase, and after one more crash and attempted carjacking, Siganoff was arrested near Riverside Drive and the 134 Freeway in Burbank.
