PASADENA, CA — A 66-year-old man accused in a double stabbing in Pasadena that left one of the victims dead pleaded not guilty Monday to murder and attempted murder charges.
Jose Antonio Santiago, of Pasadena, is charged with the Sept. 12 murder of Jerry Chan, 42, and the attempted murder of Dan Trevino, 32, who survived a stab wound to the leg.
The criminal complaint includes allegations that Santiago personally used a knife and inflicted great bodily injury.

Santiago, who was arrested the day of the attack and remains jailed, was ordered to return to court Nov. 8, when a date is expected to be set for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
Authorities said the two victims were stabbed about 1:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of East Colorado Boulevard. It was unclear what prompted the attack, but it was preceded by a verbal exchange, according to Pasadena police, who alleged that Santiago left but returned a short time later armed with a knife and stabbed both men.
