Suspected Arsonist Also Accused Of Attempted Murder: Report

Pasadena police believe a 40-year-old man set several fires around the city and attacked another person with a hammer on the same night.

PASADENA, CA — A 40-year-old man is accused of attempted murder and setting several fires around the city Sunday, the Pasadena Star-News reported.

David Powell, a resident of Houston, was arrested Monday on suspicion of attempted murder and arson, the paper reported. The Pasadena Police Department told the Star-News a person with a hammer had attacked a homeless man in his 50s.

The man survived the attack, the paper reported. Pasadena police believe Powell is the attacker and that he also set several fires around the city.

The fires were all set within a few blocks of each other, according to the Pasadena Fire Department. No injuries occurred at the fires.

A motive for the attack and the fires is not known, the paper reported.
